Soul Food
The Bible is soul food. A steady diet of this food nourishes, builds and fortifies the mind, body and soul of the one who consumes it. God’s Word heals and gives life; it makes us victorious and brings about miracles. This soul food is unlike any other because, not only does it taste good, but this one food source is adaptive to the needs of the consumer. God’s Word is food for the soul. And it is all we need to help us live a productive, healthy and blessed life on this earth.

Here’s a Serving of Soul Food from Parable of the Cake
Lauren asked G-Mama why she prayed while she cooked. And G-Mama had responded: “Most people think that food just feeds the body. But food feeds the soul. So, I want my food to be filled with the Spirit of God spoken into it so that it nourishes the body and soul. There is nothing like God’s Word. His Word – now that’s real soul food.”
G-Mama continued to mix and beat and pray. She had moved on to cracking the eggs one at a time and gently beating them into the creamy mixture of butter and sugar. It fascinated Lauren that G-Mama never lost the rhythm of her beating even as she moved through the process of adding the ingredients. It was like she was a one-woman symphony and the kitchen was her orchestra pit.
As G-Mama added the flour to the cake batter, she began to speak aloud. “…already complete and perfect. We don’t need to add anything to it.”
Lauren laughed and cupped her chin in her hands as she waited to catch up with G-Mama’s story. Her grandmother often started speaking from the middle of a sentence because soon the overflow from her heart spilled through her lips. And wherever her thoughts were when the eruption happened is where she began to speak.
G-Mama added a little more flour and continued the melody of her mixing. “God’s word is delicious,” she continued. “’O, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who trusts in Him.’ That’s Psalm thirty-four, verse eight. I always think about God’s word when I cook, especially when I make this cake.”
