Agape Love
Agape love. The perfection and completeness of God’s love is what we experience when we are born again of His Spirit. There is no category for His love. He is love. And He loves. In His love, there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for [we] are all one in Messiah Yeshua (Galatians 3:28).
Paul writes this truth in Romans 8:38-39:38: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Messiah Yeshua our Lord.
G-Mama comes face to face with agape love in a powerful and beautiful way. She comes to see her own segmented love for what it is. Although she loves her family, her friends and her fellowship community, she realizes that her love falls far short of the truth of God’s love. His agape love. And she will never be the same.
A Slice of Agape Love from Parable of the Cake
There was no category to their love. She did not love Elijah as husband; she did not love Jacob as son or Rachel as daughter or daughter-in-law. Nor did their love for her have the boundary of relationship. They simply loved. And it was then that Grace realized that she was experiencing the truth and purity of love. Agape love.
God’s love, she had always understood, was agape: pure, unconditional, unbreakable, eternal and unbiased. And though she had loved her family and friends, she realized that she had loved them according to who they were in relationship with her. Her love for Elijah as her husband was different from the love that she felt toward her children. Her love for her family was different and greater than the love she felt for her friends, even her fellowship community. And her love for God was different and exceeded any love that she had for any of her fellow man.
But here she was, in the presence of agape love. Captivated by the love of God and her family. And the love she felt for each one was the same: pure, unconditional, unselfish, eternal, unbiased love. She saw and felt that this agape love was the love that each of them had for her and each other. And joy, unspeakable joy, overwhelmed her as she turned back toward the presence of God.
